VIA Signature Strengths Survey
Based on many years of research the highly respected psychologist, Dr. Martin Seligman, has provided a series of free, online questionnaires linked to his book Authentic Happiness. I recommend my executive coaching and personal branding clients to take the VIA Signature Strengths Survey as it provides useful insights and a good starting point for discussion.
Motives Values and Preferences Inventory
Many people find the MVPI useful as a basis for thinking about what is really important to them, whether this is in the context of work or more widely. When it seems useful, I will recommend this (or other assessments) to clients which can be completed online for a nominal fee. I will send the links and access codes directly to you.
The process of clarifying your values and beliefs is usually one of detection rather than creation. In other words, you find out who you really are. - Jagdish Sheth and Andrew Sobel, Clients for Life

Books
Clients for Life: How Great Professionals Develop Breakthrough Relationships
Jagish Sheth and Andrew Sobel
New York: Simon & Schuster, 2000. ISBN 0684870304
Also available as an e-book using Adobe 6.01. ISBN B00005KHCD
This is an in-depth, client-tested, jargon-free guide to developing stable, enduring business relationships. Answering the question: how can I make myself stand out and become indispensable to my clients for the long haul? I have personally found this very useful as have clients.
On Form: Achieving High Energy Performance Without Sacrificing Health and Happiness and Life Balance
Nicholas Brealey Publishing, 2003. ISBN:185788325X
First published in the USA as The Power of Full Engagement, 2003
In this groundbreaking book, the authors use their vast experience working with top athletes and business executives to demonstrate that managing energy, not time, is the key to enduring high performance. Their thesis is that although the number of hours in the day may be fixed, the quality of your energy is not. The key is to be physically energised, emotionally engaged, mentally focused and invested in what is important to you. This is a practical and stimulating book.
Authentic Happiness: Using the New Positive Psychology to Realise Your Potential for Lasting Fulfilment
Martin P. Seligman, Phd
Nicholas Brealey Publishing, 2003 ISBN 1857883292
This introduces the idea of signature strengths which we each have as individuals. It fits with my view that we should work with the grain and build on the strengths that we naturally possess rather than getting marginally better at everything else. There is a linked website and I recommended completing the VIA Signature Strengths Survey (see assessment tools).
